My condolences go out to Larry’s wife and family members. Larry was a friend of my father Cliff, which I was a designated driver to go out to the farm for the winter sleigh ride and watching games on the tv at times. The best laugh I had was once Larry said Jeff do you want a drink. I replied, I’m fine Larry Dad drinks enough for the two of us. Larry laughed and said you got that right Jeff. Larry did many things for Cliff and one of the best was when Larry bought at auction to be the Assistant Coach for an Edmonton Eskimo football game. I also had the opportunity to sit in the Owners Lounge at an Edmonton Oilers Game during the intermission. Larry was a true friend of Cliff which is rare today. Rest Easy Larry it’s been a great journey! Jeff Rose Manchester U.K.

My deepest condolences go out to Larry’s wife and family members. Larry will always have a special place in my heart as he touched so many of us young individuals just starting out in the Oil patch. He not only gave us an opportunity but also a business family we could all be proud of .From day one Larry, Ron and the original BMW staff were so welcoming and supportive it was truly an honour to work side by side with such a great team.Larry was a leader in more ways than one and might not have known how many young individuals he inspired to become the people they are today because of how he lead by example. I truly believe Larry’s motto of “Work hard and play hard and just getter done” was an inspiration that needed no explanation! For that Larry will never be forgotten but always missed. Rest in Peace Larry, John Letwinetz

It’s too bad Larry wasn’t in charge of more things, because he really was the best at running them. He had a way with people and an ability to make decisions that always seemed to put everyone on the best path forward. Working with Larry never really felt like work. Even though he joked that a 12-hour day was only a “half day,” he always made sure you knew your effort was appreciated. Some of my favorite memories will always be the BMW Christmas parties. Every child of every employee received a present from Santa, and every employee received a cheque. That was how Larry wanted it—and things like that just don’t happen anymore. I’m grateful for the time I had working with him, and for the friendship, mentorship, and memories he left behind. Rest in peace, my friend. My sincere condolences to his family. Mike Dalton

Our condolences to Larry's family. It was awesome working for Larry and Ron Christie at BMW, they gave me (and my family) a great opportunity which I am grateful for to this day. He will continue to be remembered as I apply the many lessons learned from Larry in my own business regularly. Great guy, who enjoyed life. Jim & Yvonne Zanello

Shocked to hear the news of Larry's passing three weeks ago. He was such a big hearted man who always had a smile. Cliff fondly remembers many great times with Larry including a private flight to Mexico for a holiday. People who didn't know Larry had no idea how well off he was - he wasn't about the show and always had genuine interest anytime you ran into him. He will be missed. I grew up in Goodwater, Sask., in the same small village as Larry Makelki. Although I am 4 years his senior, I have strong memories of his notable hockey and baseball abilities. I also remember his lifetime love for horses. Larry had a competitive spirit which served him well in both his personal and business endeavours. His helping nature and strong interest in community, contributed to his many undertakings that focused on helping and supporting others. He was a kind and generous man and will be missed by all who knew him. We offer our deep condolences to his family and loved ones. Larry and Kathleen Johnston Family, Edmonton.

Our sincere condolences to the Makelki Families during this difficult time. As I reflect on my years working for BMW I will always credit their success for Larry's business model. He had the ability to hire good people and empower them to. be successful. As successful as Larry was he never forgot his roots. He had certain charisma about him which made him a very likeable person. You had a great ride Larry. You will certainly be missed. Mel and Mary Ellen Woods

Deepest condolences to all those who loved and knew Larry. I met Larry years ago thru work. Thru this connection , I went to Lloyd to help Jamie host his golf tournament hospitality thru my company which BMW was a customer . Larry once said to me I was ten feet tall , bullet proof and invincible but Larry was the one who truly was. Larry was one of a kind , larger than life , a toasted marshmallow , crusty outside but meltingly soft inside. He spoke lovingly of his kids and this is where you’d see the soft inside the most. There are so many wonderful stories and memories to share , but they would take days. God speed Larry. You will be missed by all who knew and loved you. Heavens gain Love and hugs.
